OpenAI's Tibo says Codex usage limits get banked resets on November 1 and 2

Codex usage limits get two more resets, and they are banked ones. Tibo (Thibault Sottiaux, who leads Codex at OpenAI) wrote on October 31 at 05:42 UTC that the "next two days will be resets… banked…", meaning November 1 and November 2. Nothing has been credited yet: this is an announcement of resets to come.

The full post is Day 26 of his daily series: "You can now easily switch between multiple accounts on mobile, and coming soon to desktop too. Next two days will be resets… banked… do with this what you may 👀."

What a banked reset is

A banked reset is a reset credited to your account that you trigger yourself. OpenAI's help page on how resets work in Codex defines it as "a free, one-time reset saved to your account for later use": receiving one doesn't refresh your usage, and "you choose when to use it before it expires." That is the difference from an automatic (or "global") reset, which OpenAI applies directly and which can't be saved. Tibo has handed out banked resets before, most recently on Day 3: "Loading a banked reset in everyone's paid accounts."

The help page doesn't give a fixed validity period. It says OpenAI "selects the recipients, covered limits, delivery timing, and expiration for each promotional offer," and tells you to use a banked reset "before the expiration date and time shown in your account or offer." The 30 days the page mentions is how far back the reset History view goes, not how long a reset lasts.

You redeem a banked reset in Settings > Usage & billing in the desktop app, in Usage settings on the web, or with /usage and then Redeem reset in Codex CLI. It only works once a covered allowance is below 80%; otherwise it stays in your balance. A full reset restores the 5-hour and weekly allowances on Plus and Business Standard, and the weekly allowance on Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500. Using one also restarts the usage period, so your next scheduled refresh moves. The mobile app can't redeem one, which is a slight letdown on the day the mobile app got the headline feature.

Tibo's post doesn't say which plans get these two resets, how many each account gets, or when they land, and by 09:50 UTC he hadn't answered any of the roughly 1,700 replies asking. No official OpenAI account had either. (One reply is signed "[Official]" and says the resets "will be banked"; it comes from a fan account called Codex Watch, not from OpenAI.)

The rest of Day 26

The feature itself is account switching: you can now switch between several accounts on mobile, according to Tibo, and desktop is next, with no date given. For people who keep a personal plan and a work seat side by side, that removes a sign-out and sign-in.

Two days left

The two resets would follow three in the past week. We covered the October 25 reset and the October 28 one, which came two days after another reset on October 26. Day 25 brought doubled Codex and Work limits for the Pro tiers instead. The series was planned as 28 days, so Days 27 and 28 are the last two. Tibo had already joked about the length when Anthropic renamed Claude Max 20x to Ultra on October 30, replying: "Better announce 28 days of reset." He seems to be taking his own advice for the finale.
