First of two banked Codex resets lands on November 1, Tibo confirms with "Banked 1/2"
The first of the two banked Codex resets that OpenAI's Tibo promised for this weekend has been credited. Tibo (Thibault Sottiaux, who leads Codex at OpenAI) confirmed it on November 1 at 00:43 UTC with a two-word post: "Banked 1/2". The second one is due on November 2.
Banked 1/2
We wrote about the announcement on October 31, when Tibo's Day 26 update said the "next two days will be resets… banked…". That part is now settled: this one is a banked reset, not an automatic one. Your usage meter doesn't move on its own. The reset sits in your account until you redeem it, and it can be redeemed only once a covered allowance has dropped below 80%. In the desktop app it's under Settings > Usage & billing, on the web it's in Usage settings, and in Codex CLI you run /usage and pick Redeem reset. Redeeming it restores the allowance and restarts your usage period, so your next scheduled refresh moves too.
The timing is a little fuzzy. A third-party tracker, @codex_reset, said its monitor spotted a banked reset at 19:59 UTC on October 31, almost five hours before Tibo posted. But at least one user was still asking at 00:27 UTC whether anyone had received it. That fits a rollout across accounts, though OpenAI hasn't said how the resets were delivered.
What Tibo's post doesn't say is just as relevant as what it does. It gives no plan list, no per-account count and no expiry date. Trackers such as TiboTracker say it's one banked reset per user, and replies from Plus and Pro users report it arriving, but neither Tibo nor an official OpenAI account has spelled that out. OpenAI's help page on Codex resets says each promotional banked reset has its own expiration, shown in your account or offer, so check there before you sit on it for too long.
There's one practical question about the second reset. If it is also banked, there's no penalty for using today's now; if it turned out to be an automatic reset instead, any banked reset still unused when it arrived would be wasted. Tibo's Day 26 wording points to banked for both days.
The weekend wraps up Tibo's 28-day series of daily Codex updates, and it lands next to less welcome news. From December, ChatGPT and Codex will share one token-based usage limit on Plus, Pro and Business, and that is what most of the replies under "Banked 1/2" are about.
